Radiation Issues in the Gamma-Ray Large Area Space Telescope GLAST
نویسنده
چکیده
The GLAST LAT instrument has been designed for high sensitivity, high precision gamma-ray detection in space. It will contain more than 80m of single-sided AC-coupled silicon detectors. The use of silicon detectors in space will pose special challenges for the design, testing and operation, among them attention to radiation issues unique to the space environment.

Statistical Issues in High-Energy Gamma-Ray Astronomy for GLAST
This paper describes the statistical issues involved in analyzing data from high-energy gamma-ray telescopes, at levels from event reconstruction to correlations of populations of astrophysical sources. Some motivation for attempting to do astronomy with high-energy gamma rays is also given, along with some of the constraints implied by operating the instrument in orbit. Specific attention is g...
متن کاملPulsarspectrum: Simulating Gamma-ray Pulsars for the Glast Mission
Pulsars are among the most exciting gamma ray sources in the Universe and can serve as unique sites for the study of emission processes in extreme physical environments. The Gamma ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST) will increase dramatically our knowledge of gamma ray pulsars physics. In particular the Large Area Telescope (LAT), the main GLAST instrument, will provide more detailed observa...
متن کاملConstraining Dark Matter hypothesis through Diffuse Source observations with the GLAST-LAT detector
The Gamma-Ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST), scheduled to be launched in Fall 2007, is a next generation high energy gamma-ray observatory. The Large Area Telescope (LAT) instrument on-board GLAST with a wide field of view (> 2 sr), large effective area and 20 MeV to >300 GeV energy range, will provide excellent opportunity for future Dark Matter studies. We present an overview of the GLAS...
متن کاملGLAST LAT silicon tracker
The Large Area Telescope (LAT) on the Gamma-ray Large-Area Space Telescope (GLAST) mission is designed to provide unprecedented sensitivity in the exploration of the gamma-ray sky. Gamma rays with energy above 10 MeV are detected via the pair conversion process, using a precision silicon tracker-converter and a hodoscopic CsI calorimeter. Charged cosmic rays are rejected by a tiled plastic-scin...
